Lily's Olympic Presentation

Lily researched the Olympic sport, Gymnastics, and shared her new learning on a google docs presentation.
We learnt so many interesting facts and especially enjoyed the video.  Well done Lily!

Leo's Timeline

Leo created a timeline of important historical events starting from the Dinosaur age and working through to where he see's himself in the future.  Leo developed this presentation in writing and reading sessions.  I'm sure you will agree that it is an amasing piece of research.  You are an impressive author Leo!

Making connections in Maths

How we use - what we know, to help us solve problems.  We are learning that we can show our understanding in different ways.
We are all teachers in Room 5.  We are learning to listen and think about what others are saying to us.  If we don't understand we are learning to ask questions to find out more.

Rings, Bar and ropes at Omni.

Boing! Boing! Boing! goes the trampoline.
Swing, swing I go on the rope.
I tried to not fall in the lava.
I went on the spring board,
We did running, stretching, swinging and bouncing.
By Callum

Bounce, I go on the spring board.
Splat, I land on the blue mat.
Bounce, here I go on the trampoline.
We learnt to do tucks.
To do tucks you have to tuck your knees.
Squish, squash goes the foam pit.
Jump...I go into the foam pit!
Lachlan

I did jumps on the beam.  I did not fall off.
We jumped into a pool of foam at the end.
I went on the trampoline.  I did tucks and I did star-jumps.
I had a lot of fun at the Omni Gym.
When I jumped on the springboard it felt as if I was flying!

Wow, look at the fun and new learning that took place at the Omni Gym.  I wonder if we will end up at the Olympics?

Jack Frost

Winter Collage

We made a collage of Winter using different media -crayon, dye, ripped paper, folded paper snow flakes, polystyrene flakes and glitter.  We started working on the background.  Do you like the cold colours we chose? The snow flakes were fun to make.  They were all unique.  When we created the winter tree we had to  try to balance the tree on the page.  Building the tree from a strong trunk certainly helped!!  Ripping the paper took a lot of care.  We liked the way it made the trunk look rough, just like bark!  The fun part was the glitter.  Don't you like the way the trees sparkle!

Fun Food Family Feast...behind the scene!

Fun Food Friday Family Feast.  Wow 450 Pipi pizza lunches and 150 extra slices.  It really takes a lot of organising.  We loved the delish Pipi pizza, crispy carrot salad, tasty, chewy Anzac biscuit and Yummy Hawkes Bay Apple.  Thanks Alex and Chris from Pipi, Glen from Vegeez and Paul Paynter for the Yummy apples.

Place Value

Did you know that all numbers have a place and a value.  We have been playing a place value game with our buddies.  One person makes a number and the other person has to record the number in the place value house.  We are getting good at skip counting in tens and adding on ones.

Room 5's Museum

Thinking like Historians, we found an old item to research.  After finding out about our item we shared these interesting facts with our classmates.  We compared the olden day item with what we would use today.  We learnt so many interesting facts from each other.

Room 5 News-week 5

21/5/2012
Dear Parents,
Once again, well done to the children who presented their “Olden Day” item to us last week.  We learnt about, and compared items such as games, diving backpacks, money, clothing, brushes, houses, toys, books and irons. Thank you for the efforts you have gone to in preparing the items for us.  The children have been fully engaged and it is exciting to see them driving their own learning. We look forward to the last 4 presentations this week.  I will update the blog with all the presentations after Wednesday.

As you are already aware to celebrate the success of our “Historian” theme we are inviting Grandparents, or older friends, to join the children who will share their learning and entertain, with some singing.  Grandparents can then stay on to have lunch with their grandchildren.  This is being held on Thursday 24th May from 11.30- 1.45ish. (Lunch eating time is 12.45-1.05.)

This is our last week for discovery learning as Mr Hastings will be back in week 6 teaching football skills.

Remember to view our wiki page http://rimaroom.wikispaces.com/ and class blog http://hnpsjarvis.blogspot.co.nz/.  This is a great way to get the children talking about their learning.  We would love you to post some comments on our blog.

Homework Tasks-reading, essential spelling words, mathletics, numeracy knowledge ladder and handwriting.
Have a great week, Sue

We really enjoyed the very grand Oruawharo Homestead.  It was so much fun exploring the house and grounds.  Did you find the 12 bedrooms?  The swing was a big hit!

Waipawa Early Settlers Museum

We are learning to think like Historians.  It was so much fun visiting the Waipawa Early Settlers Museum.  We were able to "have a go" at using so many "olden day" machines and tools.  We all decided that life 150 years ago was very different to today.
